Your Questions, Answered

  • Every visit to CapyHour Cafe is a little different, which is part of what makes it so special! Our capybaras each have their own personalities and moods, and it’s always up to them how much they choose to interact.

Some visits are very hands-on, capybaras may come right up to you, sit beside you, or even climb into your lap. Other times, they may prefer to relax and be observed from a distance. We follow their lead to ensure they feel safe and comfortable at all times.

Because of this, we can’t guarantee that every guest will have direct interaction with the capybaras, but you’ll always have the chance to spend time in their space and enjoy watching these amazing animals up close.

  • Yes, we highly recommend making a reservation in advance. While it’s sometimes possible to walk in if we have availability, this is very unlikely due to limited space and high demand.

Booking ahead ensures you’ll have a guaranteed spot and the best possible experience during your visit to CapyHour Cafe.

  • Yes. For the safety and comfort of both our guests and our animals, the minimum age to participate in the CapyHour Cafe experience is 5 years old. This is a firm policy and we’re unable to make exceptions.

  • We are working quickly to get our own communication system up. In the meantime feel free to message Capy Hour on Facebook or call 208.719.9047 :)

  • We currently schedule bookings up to 8 weeks in advance. As we’ve just opened, we’re gradually releasing additional summer sessions while we fine-tune and thoughtfully curate the experience.

Be sure to stay tuned for future dates as we continue to expand our availability!

  • Yes! We currently have two baby capybara brothers who live here at CapyHour Cafe. As they grow, they’ll become ambassadors for both the cafe and our wildlife conservation efforts.

  • CapyHour Cafe is designed to be a slow, calm, and immersive experience—for both our guests and our animals. To keep everyone safe and comfortable, we ask that all guests follow these guidelines:

    • Remain seated during your session. No free roaming, except when changing seats or heading to the restroom.

    • Move slowly and speak quietly to help keep the environment მშვიდ and stress-free.

    • All guests must be age 5 or older. This is a firm policy.

    • The capybaras always come first. We follow their lead at all times. We do not guarantee interaction and will never force them to engage with guests.

    • Feeding is encouraged when guided by staff, using only approved food provided by the cafe.

    • Follow all staff instructions at all times—they’re there to ensure a safe and positive experience for everyone.

    • No sudden movements, chasing, or grabbing the animals. Gentle, respectful behavior is required at all times.

    • Keep food and drinks (other than approved items) secured, and do not share outside food with the animals.

    • Phones and photos are welcome, but please keep flash off and avoid startling the animals.

By respecting these rules, you’re helping us create a peaceful environment and supporting the well-being of our capybaras. Thank you for being a thoughtful guest!

  • Yes! When we designed this space, we kept all of our friends in mind. Our café is fully accessible for wheelchairs, walkers and other mobility needs. Even better, our capybaras don’t mind at all, they’ll happily wander up to wheelchairs just the same to say hello and accept a snack! If you have any specific accessibility questions, please reach out and we would be happy to discuss :)
